Reception desk staff is very kind and helpful. Breakfast is excellent.
The architecture inside the building is such that there is no air circulation whatsoever which makes the air in the room stuffy even when no one is in. The room arrangement is such that one of the beds is immediately in front of the bathroom door.
Some things that happened to me at this hotel: --One leg of the bed fell off --One day they forgot to make my bed --Every time I get into the bed I start with a pretty bad allergy. Note this happened to me when I got into the hotel bed and not elsewhere, so it is a bed related thing. Very likely the bed is not clean because this does not happen to me at home. --Crappy TV, like from the early 90s --very noisy
Hotel reception was nice
During our break we stayed in better hostels than the Hotel OK, which is supposedly 5*. The room was very small, extremely basic and struck us as "hostel star", particularly because of the poor bedding and the view onto the side of the building next door. The loaction was more Lapa, than Centro which is rather more dangerous and the staff would rather answer call after call than attend the front desk. It was rather expensive for what it was and I woudl not recommend it at all. Maybe at 2*
They didnt respect the price of bookings.com so we left there they wanted to charge 520 reales more, about 270 dollars extra. Plus the are is pretty bad.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean but not very large (maybe this is the case everywhere in Rio?).
The hotel is located close to the city center. Therefore the street is very crowded and dirty and maybe also not too secure during evening and night.
Clean room, clean and modern bathroom. Good location
Internet is not working 100% of the time. My neighbor is very noisy after hours but I guess it is just that room, can't blame the hotel for this.
What I liked best was that the reception staff made every effort to help me, especially the one who spent a long time on the phone trying to help me locate my delayed luggage from the airport. He was friendly and polite and I appreciated his help a lot. The rooms and facilities were more than adequate for my needs, and the buffet breakfast choice was great. The price was excellent. I'd definitely stay there again.
Not the hotel's fault, but Centro is not the greatest location in Rio; not the cleanest or most interesting part. Having said that, I felt safe, and saw good nightlife including locals Capoiera dancing in the square.
My plan included breakfast. Breakfast was great because I could enjoy various kinds of cheese, ham, bread, and cakes. The room was traditional because of wooden floor and door.
There was a bit poor feeling because of small bed, small and no flat TV, no bus tub, and poor bed cover. Wireless internet did not work well because of weak signal.
hotel pep in the counter can speak english well
the girls in the counter is not so resonsable
Location, breakfast, decor, hotel staff.
The unusual arrangment of the rooms placed aound the outer edge on each floor with the centre section being completelty open from the top of the hotel to the bottom. This seems to channel noise upward through the open space.
Personal is rather harsh, and does not speak English (only very basic words)
It's location is close to an airport (not international), and a subway station. Especially nice location for those who have business downtown, while it still allows an escape through subway to Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.
Probably just a problem in my specific room, but the light switches seem to be wired in a strange way. At times, it takes some specific combination of switch pressing to turn lights on/off.
Near down town
Room with many noises ( bar ouside, trucks, cars) . No isolation in the windows
Razonable para el precio. Bien ubicado en el centro, cerca de Lapa.
We stayed in Hotel OK during Rio's holidays which made us find a place to stay quite hard. We booked the hotel just a few days before arrival and there wasn't a lot to choose from. We where affraid that the low rating (6,5 at the time of booking) would affect your stay. But, we found this rating totaly unappropriated and underrated. The room we where given was quite big (corner room at 14th floor) with a little livingroom and bedroom. The room was clean and very comfortabel with a good and big bathroom. The breakfast was, compared to other hotels we stayed in in Brasil, very extensive with differtent sorts of bread, 4 kind of cheese and a lot of fruit and sweet cakes. The hotel is situated in the old center of Rio, only 5 minutes walk to the Lapa district to have a good dance in the weekend and only a few minutes from the airport busstop / metrostation Cinelandia. Not as close to the beach as those hotels in Leblon/Ipanema/Copacabana but easily reachable in short time thru metro / bus.
The only downside might be the elevators. When the hotel is busy it might took you little longer to get up or down since there are 2 normal size elevators (one out of use during our stay) and 1 smaller service elevator.
